The Orginal TRON Premiere

I worked the TRON Premiere
back in 1982!
Here's the Program they gave out that night!
Cast and Crew
I love that Michael Eisner and Dianne Disney
we're both on benefit premiere committee.
The Character department from Disneyland
was brought in to provide entertainment for the evening.
We wore the costumes from the movie
and did meet and greets with the guests all night.
I know there are pictures out there from that night...
but I don't have any...
if I find any I'll share them with you!

Then in 1985 for the 30th anniversary T.V. special
The films costumes were used again!
this time with the Pointer Sisters doing the New"TRON" dance. I'd posted these Pics before but thought it's fun to see them again...

Julie Andrews

JULIE ANDREWS
This segment was also shot at Small World Mall.
It opened wit the Sweeps dancing in front of a rooftop float.

Then she walks among the character and gives this speech

Mary Poppins made a monumental change in my life and I owe it all to Walt Disney.
He always seamed to be able to see beyond the now into what could be.
He gambled on a complete unknown in film, Me, and turned her into Mary Poppins.

He created a funny little character named Mickey and from there he gave us a family of real who will live and laugh with us forever. He gave us childhood dreams and lifetime memories.
He took a few acres of lonely land and saw a world of enchantment.

One memory I'll always cherish forever, is the thrill of seeing the Magic Kingdom for the first time
and guess who my tour guide was? The man himself! We rode all over the park in a little golf cart and do you know what the main attraction was for the people that day? Walt Disney!
People just stopped and starred at him, they could hardly believe it was him, They recognized him, They reached out their hands to touch him, They were absolutely beaming and so was he
and so was I.

I've been here many times since with my children, but nothing will top that moment.
It seemed like you could see the whole Park reflected in his eyes.
His dream had come true, a dream that we could all share, and we did.
We are, and we shall, as long as there is still a child left in each of us.

Then she sat and sang 'When you wish upon a star"

PETER ALLEN
Big Enough for Disneylands
Big Three O

The Finally song: " Big Enough for Disneyland's Big Three O"

Sung by: Peter Allen

For 30 years we’ve been coming together at Disneyland, Disneyland, Disneyland.

250 million have come through the gate

For 30 years we’ve been coming together at Disneyland, Disneyland, Disneyland.

250 million have come here to Celebrate, Celebrate, Celebrate.

Peter Allen sings

Is there a band big enough?
Is there enough music to play?
Is there a cake big enough?
A cake for the whole U.S.A.?
And can there be enough candles,
bright enough candles,
to give the whole world a glow....

Big enough for Disneyland's big three-oh?"

[Marching bands are seen in Fantasyland,

coming down the ramp and all around America Sings

and the USC Marching band down Main Street]

Now there's a band big enough.
and there enough music to play.

[A giant cake float with Mickey on top starts down main street

with characters all around it]
Now there’s a cake big enough.
A cake for the whole U.S.A..
And There can be enough candles,
bright enough candles,
to give the whole world a glow....

Big enough for Disneyland's big three-oh."

For 30 years we’ve been coming together at Disneyland, Disneyland, Disneyland.

250 million have come here to play

For 30 years we’ve been coming together at Disneyland, Disneyland, Disneyland.

250 million have come here to say…

Happy Birthday Disneyland!

[The pyro candles on the cake go off, Fireworks over the castle

And the crowd goes wild!]

The photo above is the only one I have of Peter Allen from the special,
At the top of the show all the stars arrived in limos
.

These next 2 shots aren't the greatest, but there something...
This is as the characters and the USC band was coming down the street.
I don't know if this was a camera strap or what,
but this is the "Cake float" with Mickey on top and the Candles lit.
The castle looks so close but the Cake was on the main st. side of the hub.
This was the last thing we shot for the special.
I remember that when Peter Allen would march
he would march same arm, same foot! and it's in the telecast!
very awkward! but really Funny!
I got in trouble for doing the same as him...
But hey I WAS GOOFY!

There were people everywhere [picture a 4th of july crowd],
it truly was amazing!
when it ended, over the speakers, the director said
"Hold please, while we check tape"
The park went silent.... then we heard "It's good, we got it!"
and the cheers were incredible

The Pointer Sisters

The Pointer Sisters
and The "New TRON Dance"

We shot this segment, late at night,
out at Small World Mall.
The Pointer Sisters were singing Neutron Dance
around Electric Parade Floats as Dancers,
dressed in the costumes from the movie TRON,
danced through the scene

Toy Soldier's with their push units
and the Small World push units were also there...
notice that the on the left, the guys that are normally dressed in the
Small World Costume were replaced
by the Knights [that had lighted costumes]
that carried the Blue Fairy's train in the Parade

And you have to have a MSEP bug!

In this shot Drew runs into her pal Baloo

Baloo helps her on the back of one of Hathi the Elephant
Hum... wonder if he sees the "Angle" in Drew?

A hug from Drew... what a great kid...
